Welcome!
The Faculty of Physical Culture at Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic and HEPA Europe – The European Network for the Promotion of Health-Enhancing Physical activity are organizing the 6th International Conference “Movement and Health 2010 and 2nd Conference and Annual Meeting of HEPA Europe”. The conference will be co-sponsored by WHO Regional Office for Europe.

The main theme of the conference is Health-enhancing Physical Activity in the 21st century: Environmental and social influences and approaches.

Palacký University, Olomouc
The Faculty of Physical Culture was established in 1991 and is one of the most important institutions with this orientation in the Czech Republic. It plays a significant role in the education of P.E. teachers, scientific researchers, and other specialists in the area of physical culture. More than 2000 students are presently studying at the faculty. All the cornerstones developed at the Faculty of Physical Culture, i.e. P. E. teaching, adapted physical education, leisure studies, and physiotherapy in the undergraduate and kinanthropology in the postgraduate study program, serve to improve our understanding of the impact of movement activities on health and lifestyle.

The Faculty of Physical Culture is one of the eight faculties of which Palacký University consists. The University evolved from its origin as a Jesuit seminary in 1573 and is the second oldest university in the Czech Republic. Until its closing in 1860 the University participated in the advancement of the education of students from different countries. In 1946 the University in Olomouc was re-established as Palacký University. At present almost 20,000 students are studying at the university and about 1300 teachers, scientific researchers and other employees work there.

The presence of some thousands of young people, together with the many historical monuments, contribute to the unique atmosphere of one of the oldest cities in the Czech Republic, Olomouc. The first mentions of Olomouc date back to the year 1017 when Moravia was joined to the Czech Premyslide state. Stepwise Olomouc became the cultural and industrial centre of the Haná region. At present it is, with its 102,000 inhabitants, the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic. Olomouc offers unique cultural and historical monuments, which create the second largest collection of such treasures, following Prague, in our country. At the end of last millennium, the Baroque Holy Trinity Column was included on the World Culture Heritage List of UNESCO.
